Join us for our first meeting of 2018!

The Maryland World Class Consortia holds regular meetings each quarter for members and non-members interested in continuous improvement.  Each meeting is a half-day "mini-conference" that:

  • Examines tools and methods of continuous improvement
  • Showcases examples and case studies by process improvement practitioners
  • Explores leadership, culture change, and other improvement enablers
  • Provides networking with the region's community of Lean Thinkers

At this quarter's meeting:

Minerva Devera will discuss Lean progress at MWCC member company, Emergent BioSolutions.  The company's Baltimore campus produces vaccines and therapeutics for infectious diseases, oncology, and autoimmune disorders.  Minerva, their Director of Operational Excellence, has led the company's improvement efforts, and will discuss Emergent BioSolution's recent improvement efforts, training and development approach, and other facets of their comprehensive continuous improvement program.  Emergent BioSolutions has been striving consistently for many years to build a Lean culture. Their lessons-learned can inform any organization's Lean Journey.

Erin Edwards is the Director of Continuous Improvement at Four Seasons Produce in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. Four Seasons is a company in transition.  Leaders are working to move from a traditional culture toward one with greater recognition, engagement, ownership, and accountability.  Erin will share their company history and their case for change.  She will describe details of how their efforts started, how they have evolved, the challenges they now face, and their next step plans.

Four Seasons Produce is a work-in-progress; their story is one that many will relate to, and the steps they have taken so far are ones that can inform any group with similar goals. Following Erin's presentation, participants will break into small groups with facilitators to discuss Four Seasons, and to collect observations, questions, and suggestions for improvement.
