Companies actively engaged in Lean offer a treasure trove of information when it comes to their respective Lean journeys. Benchmarking these companies brings you new ideas, an affirmation of your current practices, and an opportunity to be spurred on and take next steps in your own organization. To that end, we are continuing to bring you monthly tours so you can take advantage of this knowledge base. Each plant tour offers a unique opportunity to dialog with peers from across industries and functions about best practices, challenges and solutions to moving your organization forward.
LEAN PLANT TOUR
Holmatro manufactures equipment and systems for industrial applications and emergency services using hydraulic rescue tools. Today, the company has over 300 employees worldwide and has production facilities in the Netherlands and the United States. Common to all products is the basic premise that only harnessed power can be put to use effectively. Holmatro tools allow their users to apply the high hydraulic forces in a practical, controlled and safe way, even if they are used in the most unfavorable circumstances.
The company has a dedicated team who incorporates Lean manufacturing strategies to streamline supply chain processes and control inventory levels. The team focuses on planning for every part and analyzing all parts required for production. So far, the team has successfully implemented a kanban system for purchased and finished goods. Planning is currently in progress for the WIP market. During the tour, an overview of the Lean initiatives in the machine shop, warehouse, and assembly will be shared.
