The Maryland World Class Consortia holds regular meetings each quarter for members, potential members, supporters, and guests.  Each meeting is a half-day "mini-conference" that provide new developments among Consortia members, examples of World Class tools in action, and networking with active practitioners.

Speakers for this meeting:

Jim Joyner, Vice-President of Corporate Excellence at Card-Monroe Corporation, will present on Lean Success in a Low-Volume/High-Mix Manufacturing Environment.

Some people say lean won't work in a low-volume/high-mix environment.  But that's not the case, and CMC is a shining example of that.  Lean has helped them to achieve record shipment rates, triple their inventory turns, reduce work-in-process by 70%, cut cycle time by 60%, improve on-time delivery by 300%, and win awards for their results.  Learn how they made their remarkable progress and how you can apply them to your operations.

Jan Baum, Director of the Object Lab at Towson University, will speak on 3D Printing - Revolutionizing the Physical World

Digital technologies are changing how we work, live, and play.  3d scanning/imaging, computer aided design, and printing- are revolutionizing the way we make our physical world with applications across industries and sectors. These technologies are in the hands of everyone thus innovation is coming from everywhere.  These methods open up new opportunities for process improvement and value delivery for many forward-thinking companies.

Greg Fields and Kevin Colcord, Partners at Lean Enterprise Inc, will detail their recent work in lean healthcare, helping to transform ER and outpatient services at a North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA.  With 4000 employees, NSMC is the second largest community healthcare system in Massachusetts.  Hear how lean methods were applied to NSMC's Inpatient Cardiology unit and the hospital's Emergency Department with dramatic results.
